The museum also features the famous Clarks Desert Boot, presented to Pat Snee with his face on it when he retired from Clarks after 50 years. Snee, who started working for Clarks in 1969 at the age of 15, reflects on his time with the company. "I worked my way up right into the company. I came off the shop floor into management in the 80s," he says. One of his most memorable moments was being asked to turn the Christmas lights on, a tradition that honored his long service.
Rosie Martin, the director at the Shoemakers Museum, contributed two of her family's shoes to the exhibition. One is a black Italian men's shoe belonging to her husband, which he bought at a time of currency exchange confusion. "He got it at the exact moment [when] the Italian Lira changed to the Euro and he thought he found a very cheap Italian shoe in Lira but it turned out it was actually very expensive," Martin explains. The shoe holds a special place in her heart, as it was worn to their wedding in 2004 and later passed on to their son.
